Legumes in Science and Practice 3

Jun 2, 2025 | Event, General, News, Science

On 3-4 June 2025, the Association of Applied Biologists and its specialist groups Cropping and the Environment and Soil and Root Biology are organising the third edition of the conference Legumes in Science and Practice, at the University of Reading and online.

The event focuses on the significant role of grain and forage legumes in addressing today’s agricultural challenges – from improving soil health and supporting biodiversity to reducing fertiliser use and greenhouse gas emissions. Against the backdrop of climate change, environmental pressure, and a shift in dietary patterns, legumes are increasingly recognised as key crops in the transition to sustainable farming systems.

Sessions will highlight the potential of home-grown protein sources for feed and food, opportunities in intercrops and crop mixtures, insights from innovation and research projects, and the multifunctional benefits of legumes for both the environment and the food system.
