The plan for boosting the breeding of lentil
Posted: 07.10.2025
Lentil (Lens culinaris Medik.) is an important pulse crop with high nutritional value and a growing demand in Europe. However, production is constrained by a lack of cultivars adapted to European agro-environments and limited investment in breeding. The Lentil Innovation Community (IC), established within the Legume Generation project, addresses this gap by bringing together partners from Greece, Italy, France, Germany, and the Netherlands. The IC links practical breeding with cutting-edge research in a transdisciplinary platform, combining expertise in genetics, phenotyping, agronomy, and breeding under both conventional and organic systems.
