Full Professor at the Institute for Sustainable Agriculture, CSIC, at Córdoba, Spain. Research interest in legume breeding.

Extensive experience in participation and coordination of research both at EU and International level. Leader of 17 Spanish research projects, has been coordinator of 1 EU project (FP5), a COST action, an ARIMNet project (FP7) and a MC-IOF Project (FP7); has been WP leader in 1 FP6 integrated project, 1 FP6 Eranet, 2 FP7, 2 H2020-EU, 2 Horizon Europe, 1 PRIMA and 1 Australian-GRDC project. Has also coordinated 10 bilateral projects with North African countries and participated in a Global Diversity Trust project, a Genome Canada (AGILE) and a IAEA project.

He has been President of the International Legume Society and of the European Association of Grain Legumes Research and member of the Executive Committee of the Int. Parasitic Plant Society. Is Chief Editor of Frontiers in Plant Sciences section Plant Breeding, editor of Agronomy for Sustinable Development, of Field Crops Research, of Agronomy, of Phytopatologia Mediterranea and of Journal of Agricultural Research. He has served before in the editorial board of a number of journals such as Weed Research, Euphytica, Scientific Reports, Critical Reviews in Plant Sciences, or Crop and Pasture Science.

Has published 370 articles in SCI-Journals with IF, reaching a h-index=59, and >70 in non-SCI-journals; >60 book chapters; >450 participations to conferences. He has supervised 32 PhD thesis already defended. Co-organizer of 15 international conferences. Member of the Scientific Committee of 40 International Conferences
